Semantically Federating Multi-agent Organizations

چکیده
We believe that successful co-operation between multi-agent systems providing services in a specific domain can be realized by constructing an infrastructure that supports the semantic interoperability between them. In this paper, we introduce a conceptual architecture for the semantic interoperability of multi-agent systems in the large-scale. The most important element of the proposed conceptual architecture is the federation. A federation established for a particular domain specifies the common characteristics of multi-agent systems in that domain. Hence, a special ontology is required at the federation level for defining the common characteristics of each multi-agent system in a particular domain as its own meta-knowledge. This meta-knowledge is then used in the semantic discovery of the multi-agent systems with which to cooperate. Since different multi-agent systems may use different ontologies, an ontology translation service is also defined at the federation level.

A Definition of Exceptions in Agent-Oriented Computing
The research on exception handling in Multi-Agent Systems has produced some advanced models to deal with ‘exceptional situations’. The expression ‘agent exception’ is however unclear across the literature, as it sometimes refers to extensions of traditional exception models in programming languages, and sometimes to organizational management mechanisms with distinct semantics. In this paper, we...

We focus on the problem of semi-automated query discovery for XML views without requiring the intervention of an expert to guarantee a correct final result. Given multiple independent sources of heterogeneous XML data structures, our tool, SPHINX, lets a nontechnical user define views using example -based, graphical, interaction. SPHINX embodies a syntactically derived meta-model of federating ...

We focus on the problem of semi-automated query discovery for XML views without requiring the intervention of an expert to guarantee a correct final result. Given multiple independent sources of heterogeneous XML data structures, our tool, SPHINX, lets a naïve user define views using simple, example-based interaction. We show how federating view definitions may be represented using the version-...
